What each one is

The tickets in plain terms

Elevating work platform

WorkSafe Queensland says you need a WP high risk work licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform. Boom length is the greater of the vertical and horizontal reach at maximum extension. The page describing the licence says platforms shorter than 11 metres are not included in that definition.

Confined space

Part 4.3 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation covers confined spaces. It requires a written risk assessment by a competent person, an entry permit, signs at each entry point, continuous communication with a standby person, and first aid and rescue procedures. Workers must be given suitable training on the hazards, the risks and the controls.

Working at heights

Part 4.4 of the Regulation covers the risk of falls. The Managing the risk of falls at workplaces Code of Practice 2021 is the guide.

Forklift

In Queensland, forklift trucks fall under the LF high risk work licence class.

What to ask to see

  • The physical licence card. WorkSafe Queensland says scans and photocopies are only a guide, and the details should be checked against the physical card and the issuing regulator’s register.
  • The class on the card. It should match the machine that will be on your site. WorkSafe has warned about cards with printed classes removed or added.
  • Who will run which machine. Ask for names against machines before the day.
  • Training records for confined space work. The Regulation requires training records to be kept for two years.
  • The insurance certificate. Read what it covers before work starts.
